THE MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK
Basing on the three core Objectives:
-To provide quality teaching and learning that is relevant and competitive.
-To offer courses that address the needs of the local, national and international community.
-To promote research for the social, economic and political development of the country.
As guided by:
To be a centre of excellence in teaching, research and service to the community.
To produce outstanding, well-rounded human capital and knowledge to make a positive impact on the community.
-Practicing hard work and professionalism.
-Fostering teamwork and innovations.
-Maintaining respect and institutional loyalty.
-Embracing transparency and being accountable.
-Cherishing responsiveness and service to the community.
The QA Office will do the following to achieve the core functions (research, teaching and community engagement):
1. Conduct Workshops and meetings with QA facilitators (internal and external).
2. Ensure effective Quality control processes and continuous improvement through monitoring and evaluation.
3. Ensuring proper representation at; Departmental, School/Faculty /College levels (having QA Chairs at those levels).
4. Regular Planning meetings.
5. Developing appropriate Feedback mechanisms.
6. SWOT analysis.
7. Bench marking (internal in relation to external).
8. General commitment of all staff to the cherished values of the institution.
VERY NB: MMU ought to come up with a QA Directorate.
-Increasing demand for Higher Education (massification in HEIs).
-Competition in HEIs (how to cost effectively outcompete your opponent without changing price).
-Changing trends in HEIs (meet the standards).
-Demand for quality Higher Education (HE).
-Q A as a culture in Higher Education Institutions (Institutional culture).
All this will be implemented by a TQM management style. Total Quality Management (T Q M):
TQM; focuses on improving the quality of an organization’s product and services and stresses that all of an organization’s value-chain activities should be directed toward this goal.
NOTE: TQM requires cooperation of an organization if it is to succeed.
(TQM; was developed by a number of American consultants such as the late W.Edwards Demning, Joseph Juran and A.V. Feigenbaum.
