THE UGANDA UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AFFILIATE PROGRAM (UURAP)
Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) through its Centre for African Development Studies supports international academics and students wishing to conduct research in Uganda, and is able to assist them in obtaining permits from the Uganda Council for Science and Technology (UNCST).
-As a research associate, you will be able to conduct your research independently, whilst making a connection to a vibrant community of academics at our institution.
-We will endeavour to assist international researchers integrate into their field, all over Uganda, and in neighbouring countries.
-We can establish contacts, and help to source translators, accommodation, transport, and other logistical matters, prior to your arrival, or during your fieldwork.
-We also have an extensive collection of archival material from the government archives in western Uganda, which you would be free to access.
MMU is a young university, founded on community values, and we hope our international associates will contribute to the MMU vision, of an academic institution that gives back to its community. In that spirit, we ask research associates to make the following contributions:
-To submit a final report on their research to MMU, and to give a presentation on your work to our staff and students at our campus in Fort Portal.
-To include MMU in the acknowledgements of theses and publications produced from the research.
-To agree to send monthly emails to MMU staff whilst in the field, to assure us of your continued safety and progress.
-To adhere to the relevant code of research ethics for your discipline, and to confirm to MMU that you have read and understood that code.
-To use your own personal skills to contribute, in some way, to life at MMU. Whether you can organise a seminar, pass on practical skills, teach a class, set up a program, volunteer some of your time on our ongoing projects, or help broaden MMU’s research network, we would like to see your impact in Uganda go beyond your research project alone.
The association fees are:
-$150 for research periods of between 0-6 months
-$250 for research periods of between 6-12 months
-$350 for research periods of over 12 months
