MMU receives grant from European Union (EU) to boast agricultural studies

Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) has together with Uganda Martyrs University received a total of Uganda shillings 424 million from European Union (EU) meant to boast agricultural studies in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The press release from the EU Deputy Ambassador to Uganda, Mr. Guillaume Chartrain, indicates that the grant will enhance the quality of research at higher institutions of learning and produce students with skills and solutions to today’s socioeconomic challenges.

“The research that these universities and institutions will conduct will play an important role in providing knowledge-based solutions that drive socio-economic progress, not only for institutions or the students involved in the programme, but also have a broader economic impact on the country,” Chartrain explains.

Chartrain elaborates that Erasmus+ Capacity Building for Higher Education supports international cooperation projects based on multilateral partnerships between organizations active in higher education.

“Interventions under this grant will not only address the modernization of teaching but also take into account governance, management, and strengthening of higher education’s wider economic and social ecosystems,” Chartrain said.

MMU Associate Prof. Joshua Wesana,  the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences welcomed the grant as a blessing to MMU since the grant will directly benefit the faculty he heads.
