MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON UNIVERSITY STAFF CONCLUDE A 3-DAY TRAINING ON INCORPORATION OF GENDER IN PROJECT WRITING AND CURRICULUM.

Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) staff members from various Faculties have participated in a 3-day training on incorporation of gender in project writing and curriculum, which was held at New Fort View Hotel, Fort-Portal City between September 4th to 6th, 2023. The invited staff were from Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Business and Management Sciences; Education; Library and MMU -AER project team members.

The training under the project of Agro-ecology in the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is aimed at strengthening higher education research and science communication of agro-ecology in Rwenzori region. The participants received training on how to write project proposals; how to define gender sensitive indicators; incorporation of gender in higher education and curriculum; gender response budgeting; stakeholder analysis as well as project idea development.

The training was facilitated by Ms. Nikoleti Nikisianli from BOKU University of National Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria which is a partner University in the Agro-ecology project. Ms. Nikoleti says that the training was interesting to all the participants and her expectations are to see some of the participants submit proposals in the near future.

Nansamba Hadijja, a lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences who doubles as the work package leader on gender diversity and inclusion in the project, says that they are going to write the project on gender mainstreaming to be piloted into Faculties of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

” We are looking for a partner University in Uganda so that we can write a project together that we can submit next year,” Ms Hadijja Added.

Nansamba Hadijja coordinated with Dr Mary Deus Kyaligonza who is the work package leader on gender review as well as Dr Kisakye Violet, the international coordinator of the project to enable the activity to be a success.
