Prof. Dr. Pius Coxwell Achanga (Chairperson)
Biography of Prof. Dr. Pius Coxwell Achanga
Prof. Dr. Pius Coxwell Achanga is the Head of Institutional and Programme Accreditation (IPA) at National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), the Higher Education Regulator of Uganda. His current role involves overseeing the licensure and establishment, planning, development and strategic guidance of all Higher Education Training Institutions (Universities, Other Degree Awarding Institutions and Other Tertiary Institutions) in the Country. These include, institutional and curriculum accreditation, monitoring and evaluation and coordination and mentorship of the leadership and governance of over 250 accredited Higher Education Training Institutions (both public and private). Prior to joining NCHE, Prof. Achanga was a Research Associate at the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) in the School of Engineering, University of Cambridge (UK).
Achanga holds a PhD in Manufacturing Systems (process optimization using fuzzy logic) and a Master of Science Degree in Manufacturing Management and Information Systems both from Cranfield University (UK); a Bachelor of Business Information Technology from the University of Hull in the (UK) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Canterbury Christ Church University (UK).
Prof. Dr. Achanga has attended a number of continuous professional development trainings that include Fellowships in University Administration Support Program by the International Research and Exchanges (IREX) Board, Washington DC (2014) and the EducationUSA Leadership Institute, North Carolina State University (2017).
On 3rd November 2014, Prof. Achanga was Appointed and Commissioned, an Honorary Tennessean by Bill Haslam, Governor of the State of Tennessee. He was also the Winner of the Emerald Literati Network Awards Excellence, 2007 – for the most outstanding and highly commended paper in 2006 Series. Prof. Achanga is a Member of the Higher Education Research and Advocay Network in Africa (HERANA), the East African Higher Education Quality Assurance Network (EAQAN) and the Ugandan Universities Quality Assurance Forum (UUQAF).
Prof. Achanga is a Visiting Professor of Higher Education Studies with a Special focus on Research & Innovation in University Systems for Socio-Economic Development at the Institute for Post-School Studies, the University of the Western Cape, October 2017 – Current. He is also the National Focal person to the National Planning Team for Developing the Nuclear Human Resource Strategy under Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Uganda. He has a number of scholarly publications, with the latest being, Higher Education Systems and Institutions: Uganda, Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2018.
Prof. Dr. Kasenene Masse John (Vice Chairperson)
Biography of Prof. Dr. Kasenene Masse John
Prof. Dr. Kasenene Masse John is the Vice Chancellor of Mountains of the Moon University. He is the principal academic and administrative officer of the University. He provides leadership, academic and administrative to the whole University. Before joining MMU he was a Professor of Forestry Ecology, Department of Botany, Makerere University and a Senior Research and Training Fellow at Makerere University Biological Field Station in Kibale Forest National Park.
Kasenene holds a PhD in Forest Ecology from Michigan State University, East Lansing USA; Master of Science in Plant Ecology, Bachelor of Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Education both from Makerere University, Uganda. He also holds a Certificate in Primatology, Front Royal College, Virginia, USA; Certificate in Field Methods, Costarica, Virginia USA.
Prof. Dr. Kasenene has been a lecturer for Higher Education since 1982 to date in areas of speciality of conservation biology, community and ecosystem ecology, restoration ecology, natural resource ecology and conservation, plant energy and ecological and environmental assessment methods and techniques.
Prof. Dr. Kasenene has served in various sectors as a chair Board of Trustees Planning and Monitoring Committee of Uganda Wildlife Authority, 2003-2009; Member Technical Committee Bwindi Impenetratable National Park, 2000-2003; Chair Review Conservation Agreement Committee Uganda Wildlife Authority, 2004; Coordinator Research Funding and Research on Natural Resources, NORAD programme, MUK, 1998-2001; Member of National Examination Board [UNEB, 2013 to date; Chairperson Board of Governors Ruteete SSS, 2012 to date and Member of Governing Council Uganda Technical College, Kichwamba, 2010 to date.
Dr. Kagambe Edmond (Secretary)
Biography of Dr. Kagambe Edmond
Dr. Kagambe Edmond is the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Administration at Mountains of the Moon University [MMU], Fort-Portal Uganda. He is responsible for implementing the academic strategic vision and mission of the University, for the quality assurance and regulatory compliance of all its academic policies and programs, and for all student affairs. He plays a key role in cultivating and maintaining a strategic and productive relationship between the academic and operations components of the University. He is also responsible for direction, organization and administration of the Division of Administration, Finance and University Development. He served as the Dean School of Education, MMU. Before joining MMU was a lecturer at Moi University and Nairobi University in Kenya and a Secondary School Head teacher.
Dr. Kagambe holds a PhD in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from Moi University, Kenya. A Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning `and a Bachelor of Science in Education both from Makerere University, Uganda. Dr. Kagambe has attended a number of continuous professional development trainings that include Common Wealth Scholarship in Executive Business Administration and in Aspiring Leaders both in Salford University, United Kingdom; Australia Fellowship Scholarship in Institutional Corporate Governance at Victoria University, Australia; Project Financial and Operational Management Training Gent University, Belgium; Child Protection in Development Practice Course, Kimmage Open Distance Education [KODE] National University of Maynooth Ireland, Database Systems Management (SQL server, Uganda Management Institute, Kampala; Educational Institutional Finance Management and Control, Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, Uganda.
He has over 28 years of experience in Educational Administration, Planning and Policy Studies. A member of Forum for Education NGO’s in Uganda (FENU), Rwenzori Regional Think Tank and Tooro Education Foundation, in Uganda. He is a member of African Education Trust assisting in rebuilding curriculum, exams and school systems. He is a Board member of a number of reputable organisations/institutions in Uganda both private and public. Currently, the Programme Coordinator of Mountains of the Moon University Institutional University Cooperation Partner Programme under the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) – University Cooperation for Development (UOS), Belgium. He actively participates in continued learning through conferences and professional research. Believes in students’ abilities to learn and inherent thirst for knowledge with the right environment. He actively work to connect students to their material to transform lives.
Mrs. Nyakahuma Kazooba Grace (Member)
Biography of Mrs. Nyakahuma Kazooba Grace AKiiki
Mrs. Nyakahuma Grace is the Registrar Academic at Mountains of the Moon University. She joined the office of the Registrar Academics 2010 to date. Her role is to coordinate academic matters in the university namely: Admissions, Registration, Students Assessment, Research, Curriculum Design and implementation, counselling, gender mainstreaming, academic ceremonies, Academic staff welfare and the implementation of academic rules and regulations in the university. She has worked as a lecturer and Coordinator distance learning in the School of Education at MMU, 2007-2010 before joining the office of Registrar Academics. She has been a member of various committees at the University, Procurement and Contracts, Disciplinary, Finance, Top Management Committee and Member of the University appointments Board.
As per her career, capability and experience over the recent years she has coordinated management of Institutional and community development. Has participated in activities with a mix of curriculum development and capacity building as a trainer/mentor and in the past she worked with other development Partners at international and local levels. Ever since she has developed skills and gained vast experience in Institutional and community development work, development activity, project cycle management practices, and adult learning methodologies. She is a professional trainer and institutional development “catalyst” of high standing with a strong coordination and managerial competences. She has gained development activity implementation support skills, training, and curriculum development for institutional growth, success and sustainability.
She served as the Chairperson/ Board member in educational institutions. She has learnt from experience a number of relevant lessons and skills to share with people from all walks of life and Community development. She has contributed to the growth and development of Education Institutions in Kabarole District, Such as Kyebambe Girls School, Canon Apolo Core PTC, Kicwamba Technical College and early Childhood development centres.
Before joining MMU she worked as a Commissioner Kabarole District Public Service, 2002-2006; Project Manager Nutrition and Early Childhood Development Project(CHILD Community Child Initiatives for long-term Development) in former greater Kabarole District,2000-2004;Consultant Community Based Programmes for Peri Urban Projects Fort Portal Municipality 1997-1999; Hygiene and Sanitation Project Education Coordinator Water Aid Uganda in greater Kabarole District, 1996-1999; Project Coordinator Home Based Care Services German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in former greater Kabarole District 1991-1995 and Graduate Teacher, Kyebambe SSS, 1984-1988.
Nyakahuma holds Master of Education and Bachelor of Arts with Education both from Makerere University. She has attended a number of professional development training that includes: Records Management UNDP/PRICON, Fort-Portal, 2004, Enterprise development Uganda/UNDP in Fort-Portal 2006 and Foundations in the Management of CBOs, Strategic Thinking and Planning SNV, Fort-Portal 1998, UNDP Micro-Enterprise Development 1994 She is Member/Chairperson of Church of Uganda Committees Ruwenzori Diocese, Former Member of District Public Service Commission Kabarole District 2002-2006;member Uganda Red Cross currently the Vice Chairperson Kabarole Branch.
