MMU Launches Key Academic Policies and Regulations to Enhance Academic Governance

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) officially launched a set of critical academic policies and regulations aimed at streamlining academic operations, promoting quality teaching and learning, and enhancing research, innovation, and institutional governance.

The dissemination and launch event, held during a one-day workshop at Fort Breeze Hotel in Fort Portal City, organized by the Academic Affairs Department, brought together various academic stakeholders, including the University lawyer, Heads of Departments (HODs), Deans, the Director of Postgraduate Studies, and Assistant Academic Registrars.

Presiding over the launch on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the University Senate, and Council, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs and Outreaches, Prof. John M. Kasenene, officially unveiled the policies and commended the efforts of all those involved in their formulation. “The commitment, time, and passion poured into the development of these documents have culminated in solid academic policies that will guide the university into a future of excellence,” he said.

The meeting reviewed seven (7) academic policies and twenty-two (22) regulations, all designed to provide a structured framework for MMU’s academic agenda. The policies include:

  1. Institutional Repository Policy
  2. Collection Development Policy
  3. Examinations and Assessment Policy
  4. Graduate Studies Policy
  5. Research and Publications Policy
  6. Teaching and Learning Policy
  7. University Admissions Policy

The launch is in line with Section 45 (2) (a) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended in 2003 and 2006), which empowers University Senates to initiate academic policies and advise Councils on their implementation. In fulfillment of this legal mandate, the heads of academic units have actively participated in the review, development, and improvement of the policies on behalf of the Senate.

The workshop’s overall objective was to disseminate and launch existing academic policies and regulations to support the effective management of academic affairs.

This milestone marks a noteworthy step in MMU’s continued obligation to academic excellence, quality assurance, and institutional growth.
