eLearning uses ICTs for teaching, learning support, and course delivery through appropriate platforms, expanding students’ access to learning materials both on and off-campus, promoting student-centered learning. It enables Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) for flexible education, equipping students with essential skills for tech-oriented job markets. The Directorate of ICT at the university provides this core service, supported by robust ICT infrastructure. ICT Helpdesk
The ICT Helpdesk (IHD) at DICT ensures smooth tech operations through issue resolution, including troubleshooting, remote, and on-site support. IHD manages help desk tickets by logging, prioritizing, and escalating them. The IHD team assists users with password resets, software installation, and ICT guidance and training. They also monitor and maintain systems for optimal performance, provide hardware and software support, and address user ICT inquiries, ensuring a seamless tech experience for all.
Network Services
DICT also ensures seamless digital infrastructure by managing wired and wireless connections, network hardware, and software. The unit ensures robust network security, support data transfer and communication, and resolve connectivity issues. Our team also facilitates academic and administrative functions by providing high-speed, secure internet access, continuously monitoring and upgrading the network to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff.
ICT Planning & Maintenance
Within this docket, DICT ensures efficient technology operations by strategizing IT infrastructure development, managing budgets, and coordinating projects. We schedule and perform routine maintenance, update hardware and software, and monitor system performance. DICT also has the mandate to evaluate new technologies, ensure compliance with IT policies, and support academic and administrative needs; guaranteeing a reliable and secure IT environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Web & Digital Services
DICT manages and maintains the MMU’s online presence, ensuring accessible, user-friendly, and up-to-date websites. The Directorate develops and implements web content, supports the Marketing and Public Relations unit in digital marketing efforts, and enhancing online communication. DICT also integrates digital tools for academic and administrative use, provides technical support for web-related issues, and ensures the security and performance of the university’s digital platforms.
Mentoring & Internships
The Directorate of ICT offers an impactful mentoring program through internships for ICT students, benefiting MMU students, Ugandan students, and international participants. Since 2015, it has mentored over ten students from different universities, including Howest College in Belgium. The program provides hands-on ICT experience, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world projects, guided by expert mentors. It enhances skills, industry exposure, and fosters collaboration, including exchanges with Howest College, enriching the educational experience for all involved.
