The 19th Guild Leadership of Mountains of the Moon University Friday August 15th 2025 convened for its first official sitting at Block B, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s student governance structure.
During the inaugural session, the guild leadership formally approved key appointments to the student government cabinet. The sitting saw the confirmation of Hon. Tumuhaire Clearton to the position of Deputy Prime Minister, a role that will see him serve as an executive member of the student government.
Additionally, the leadership approved the appointment of Hon. Kahunde Gladys as Minister of Religious Affairs, positioning her to oversee matters related to spiritual and interfaith activities within the university community.
The guild council also approved the appointment of three Guild Representative Councillors (GRCs) to serve specific student constituencies. Hon. Edwin Muhumuza was appointed as GRC for In-Service Students, while Hon. Joshua Mwebesa was designated as GRC for Long Distance students. Karen Nakanwangi was also approved as a GRC during the session.
All three newly appointed GRCs were officially sworn in by Rt. Hon. Speaker Kobusinge Rukingura Bisoborwa, who administered the oath of office during the inaugural sitting.
In a major agenda item, Hon. Prime Minister Helen Komuntale presented the guild budget and comprehensive work plan for the term, both of which received approval from the guild council. The approved budget and work plan are expected to guide the 19th Guild’s activities and priorities throughout their mandate.
Addressing the guild members Rt. Hon. Speaker Kobusinge Rukingura Bisoborwa, encouraged all members to be defined by integrity and to look ahead to their roles with determination. She urged them to work with passion while adhering to the law in all their undertakings during their term of service.
His Excellency Francis Byakagaba Muhumuza, the Guild President, also addressed the gathering, calling upon guild leaders to develop adherence and cohesion in all aspects of role performance. The President emphasized the urgent need for unity and effective collaboration, noting that “the activities are many and the time is short,” underscoring the demanding nature of the guild’s mandate and the importance of working together efficiently.
The Dean of Students was represented at the sitting by Senior Nursing Officer, Gloria Turigye, who pledged the Department of Student Affairs’ unwavering support towards guild activities. Her presence and commitment demonstrated the university administration’s dedication to fostering a collaborative relationship with student leadership.
The first sitting represents the official commencement of the 19th Guild’s mandate, with the newly appointed officials expected to begin their duties immediately. The session at Block B was attended by guild members who participated in the formal approval process for the cabinet positions, GRC appointments, and financial planning.
The newly appointed officials are expected to work closely with the guild leadership to advance student interests and ensure effective representation of the university’s diverse student body, including specialized constituencies such as in-service and long-distance learners.
The 19th Guild Leadership’s inaugural sitting sets the foundation for what promises to be an active term focused on student welfare and institutional development at Mountains of the Moon University, with clear financial planning, strategic direction, strong leadership guidance emphasizing unity and efficient execution, and assured administrative support now in place.
