In a continued effort to strengthen higher education, research, and community outreach in agroecology across the Rwenzori region, Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) on Friday, 17th/October 2025 held a training on scholarly writing at New Fort View Hotel, Fort Portal. The one-day training was conducted under the Agroecology in the Rwenzori Region Phase II (AER Phase II) project.
The training organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources under the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (FAES) was facilitated by Prof. Consolata Kabonesa and Dr. Thaddeo Tibasiima and it joined together faculty academic staff and master students from various levels. It aimed at enhancing participants’ research and writing capacities for quality academic publication and dissemination of scientific knowledge.
In his welcome remarks, the H.O.D Dr. John Sekajugo, highlighted the importance of continuous capacity building for academic staff and graduate students, emphasizing that effective scholarly writing is central to MMU’s vision of becoming a center of excellence in applied research and innovation.
Delivering the opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Violet Kisakye provided an overview of the AER Phase II framework, noting that the initiative seeks to deepen research collaboration and promote agroecological solutions that address local and regional environmental challenges.
The key facilitator, Assoc. Prof. Consolata Kabonesa, led interactive sessions on qualitative data processing, analysis, and results reporting, focusing on practical approaches to improve academic papers and research outputs. She encouraged participants to prioritize clarity, coherence, and ethical considerations in their scholarly work.
Adding to the technical discussions, Dr. Thaddeo Tibasiima guided participants through effective qualitative results reporting and paper writing techniques, urging them to translate their research findings into impactful publications that contribute to sustainable agricultural and environmental practices.
Speaking after the training, Mr. Bazira Tadeo, one of the participants, expressed appreciation for the training, noting that it had greatly improved his understanding of qualitative research and scholarly writing.
The AER Phase II project continues to play a vital role in empowering researchers, students, and communities through knowledge sharing, innovation, and the promotion of sustainable agroecological practices.
