Business Faculty hosts URA for Voluntary Income Tax Assistant (VITA) Training

The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at Mountains of the Moon University has hosted officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) for a hands-on Voluntary Income Tax Assistant (VITA) Program training aimed at strengthening students’ practical
competencies in taxation.

The training, held on Friday, 27th February 2026 at the Lake Saaka Campus, encompassed URA technical staff, faculty members, and students for an interactive session designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world tax administration practice.

In the opening remarks, the Head of Banking and Finance Mr. Aliija Ronald who also represented the Dean and the entire Faculty management described the VITA Program as a strategic initiative that aligns with the University’s assurance to experiential learning,
professional excellence, and community engagement.

He encouraged students to approach the training as a career-shaping opportunity that enhances both technical skills and civic responsibility.

The Stakeholder Relationship Manager, Mr. Kizito Henry, guided participants through key tax issues and emphasized the importance of compliance and taxpayer education. He encouraged students to utilize URA’s official communication channels whenever they encounter tax-related challenges, assuring them of prompt support.

Participants were taken through practical sessions on Tax Identification Number (TIN) registration and other technical aspects of Uganda’s tax system, providing first-hand exposure to the operational standards of the national revenue body.

Edrina Kusemererwa, a student who recently completed her internship in the Domestic Taxes Department at URA, shared insights from her experience, highlighting the professional growth and technical knowledge gained, and encouraged her peers to actively seek similar
opportunities.

The Voluntary Income Tax Assistant Program is designed to equip university students with practical taxation skills aligned to URA’s mandate of revenue mobilization and taxpayer support. The initiative also opens pathways for internships and career advancement within taxation and related fields.

Through such partnerships, the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences continues to strengthen industry linkages and prepare graduates to compete favorably in Accounting,Banking & Finance, Business Administration, Procurement, Human Resource Management, and Development Finance sectors.
