Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) has invited students admitted into its Master of Public Health (MPH) programme for the 2026/2027 Academic Year to apply for a fully-funded scholarship aimed at strengthening adolescent HIV care in Uganda.
The call, circulated through a notice on the University noticeboards, is part of a collaborative research initiative dubbed “Strengthening Adolescent HIV Care in Uganda through Implementation Science: Co-developing and Embedding the Life Transition–Responsive Adherence (LiTRA) Strategy.” The project is being undertaken in partnership with HoGent and VLIR-UOS.
According to the notice, the scholarship is anchored on the LiTRA project, which was conceived against a background where adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) in Uganda continue to face poor adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), particularly during major life transitions such as joining boarding school, parenthood, employment, and the shift to adult HIV care. The project seeks to address this gap through participatory action research, co-developing a transition-responsive adherence strategy that can be embedded into routine HIV care while building MMU’s capacity in implementation science.
The scholarship is tenable at MMU for one successful candidate admitted into the MPH programme for the 2026/2027 intake. It covers tuition for up to two years, research costs, and a monthly stipend to cater for related expenses. The selected candidate will be expected to propose research in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health for adolescents living with HIV, under the supervision of Dr. Emmanuel Kimera and Ms. Linda Grace Alanyo.
Eligibility requirements for interested applicants include:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in a health-related field, such as Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, Pharmacy, or Public Health;
- A strong interest in HIV research, child health, adolescent health, or implementation research;
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Rutooro
- Prior experience conducting interviews and focus group discussions
- Willingness and ability to publish research findings in a peer-reviewed journal
- Availability to offer tutorship to undergraduate students
The University has particularly encouraged female applicants to apply.
A selection committee comprising representatives from all participating institutions will shortlist applicants based on their academic qualifications, potential for success, and prospective contribution to the Faculty of Health Sciences at MMU. Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed, with the highest-ranked applicant ultimately selected for the award.
Interested candidates are required to submit their applications before close of business on 14th August 2026. Applications should be compiled into a single PDF containing a short concept note (2–3 pages) and a short CV (maximum 2 pages), together with copies of academic documents.
