At Mountains of the Moon University (MMU), athletics play an essential role in fostering student leadership, developing talent, and raising the institution's profile nationally and across East Africa. Our sports teams represent MMU with grit, resilience, and competitive excellence across collegiate leagues, campus traditions, and regional road races.
Our flagship sports teams compete in national leagues and regional university championships, demonstrating growth and bringing home accolades across multiple disciplines.

Campus-wide sports tournaments build university spirit, welcome new cohorts, and celebrate student achievements throughout the academic calendar.
Organized by the Guild Government, the flagship Inter-Faculty Games run from late October through mid-November (October 31 – November 15), featuring campus competitions across Scrabble, Chess, Darts, Woodball, Volleyball, Netball, and Athletics. Parallel to this are the Inter-Cultural Games, organized by various student associations (including Baganda, Batoro, and others) to foster unity through friendly rivalries in football, netball, and volleyball.
To integrate incoming students and discover fresh athletic talent, MMU hosts the annual Fresher's Ball, featuring competitive exhibition matches between freshers and continuing students. Before graduation, the university hosts the Graduation Tournament & Graduation Marathon, an open invitation event attracting regional institutions to compete in athletics, volleyball, netball, and football as a festive curtain-raiser to commencement.
MMU offers athletic opportunities ranging from community road races to newly established recreational campus sports.
MMU distance runners regularly represent the university in high-profile regional road races and community health initiatives, including the Save River Mpanga Marathon, Fort Portal City Marathon, Mental Health Run, and Rwenzori Marathon. Demonstrating national-level potential, MMU athletes were selected to participate in the National Athletics Trials at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole).
