Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Sciences Holds PhD Supervision and Research Mentorship Engagement with Prof. Geert Haesaert of Ghent University

Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Sciences with the lead, Lecturer Dr. Cosmas Wacal has held a PhD supervision and research mentorship engagement with Prof. Geert Haesaert, a Professor from the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Ghent University, Belgium, who is supporting the mentorship and supervision of the 2025/2026 cohort of PhD students in Agroecological Sciences.

The engagement brought together PhD students and their supervisors, providing an important platform to interact with Prof. Geert on various aspects of doctoral research. Discussions centered on the refinement of research topics, strengthening of research concepts, development of research questions and objectives, and methodological approaches, as well as the alignment of individual research projects with broader agroecological and sustainable development challenges.

Prof. Geert is actively involved in the supervision and mentorship of the cohort, serving as a supervisor to more than four PhD students. His continued engagement provides students with access to international expertise and further strengthens the collaborative academic relationship between Mountains of the Moon University and Ghent University.

The meeting also gave students an opportunity to receive constructive feedback on their research ideas, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities they face in advancing their doctoral research. The interactive nature of the engagement encouraged critical thinking, scientific reflection, and the refinement of research directions as the students continue to progress through their PhD programmes.

Mountains of the Moon University has expressed appreciation to Prof. Geert and Ghent University for their continued partnership and contribution to the development of the next generation of researchers and scholars in agroecological sciences.
