The Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) Bakonzo students’ cultural group has emerged as the winners of the MMU 2023 cultural gala organized on Friday 10th March 2023 at the MMU graduation ground. The winners are a entitled to a prize totaling to Uganda shillings four hundred thousand (400,000/=) on top of the four hundred fifty thousand Uganda shillings (450,000/=) given to every participating group as facilitation for preparations.
A total of seven groups participated in the competition that included: Bakonzo (first) Batooro (as second), Baganda (third), Babwisi(fourth), Banyankole(fifth), Banyoro (sixth) and Basongora (seventh).
The areas of competition ranged from singing the University Anthem, Ugandan Anthem, East African Anthem, Graduation Song, Folk Song. Other areas of competition included: Folk Traditional Dance, presentation of Poem and Cultural Wear. In all these, the winners (Bakonzo) scored a total of 715 with each competition area marked out 100% (percent).
The Batooro who scored a total mark of 711 and were second walked away with a prize of Uganda shillings three hundred thounsand (300,000/=), the Baganda who came third were given two hundred thousand (200,000/=), and the other three participants including Banyankole, Babwisi, Banyoro received Uganda shillings one hundred thousand (100,000/=) while the Basongora (7th) participant received fifty thousand (50,000/=)
The MMU Guild President Dan Mujulizi thanked all the different students’ associations/groups for participating in the 2023 MMU cultural gala and implored others that missed to make it a point to participate in the next year’s event. He applauded the MMU guild minister incharge of Culture and Gender Hon. Rhoda Biira and her committee, the entire guild council for their tireless efforts, the dean of students and the entire University management for being swift in organizing the 2023 cultural gala event.
