Bunyangabu District Local Government Council convened on 4th December 2024 specifically to discuss on a perspective collaboration between their institution and Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) for establishing a Nursing School on the land housing Kasunganyanja Health Center III.
According to the District Chairperson James Ategeka Mugarama, it is a great opportunity for Mountains of the Moon University to expound its territories to Bunyangabu District. He thus applauded the University Leadership for such an insightful thought.
The State Minister for Gender and Culture who also doubles as the Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Peace Mutuuzo also appreciated MMU for the perspective collaboration and pledged full support towards formalization of the MOU between the two institutions.
“As leaders of Bunyangabu, we requested the leadership of MMU to give us the opportunity of establishing a nursing school in our area, I’m confident that this will lead to the social economic transformation of our District,” she remarked.
According to Prof John. M.Kasenene the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs (DVC AA) who represented the Vice Chancellor in the engegament, a nursing school shall create a strong platform for practical and medical training for students blended with the theoretical learning.
“students shall benefit from exposure to cutting edge medical practices, tools and methodologies enhancing the quality of graduates and addressing skills gaps in Uganda’s health workforce,” he elaborated.
Prof. Edmond Kagambe the Deputy Vice chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration added that the nursing school will enhance research and innovation in health science related disciplines.
“The nursing school shall offer a robust environment for medical research and innovation and this facility shall become a center of excellence in practical teaching, attracting research projects and clinical trials that address critical health challenges in the region and country at large,” he explained.
The proposed land where they want to put the nursing school is measuring 29.7 acres and the District leaders confirmed that the land is owned by Bunyangabu District Local Government.
It was agreed that the formalization of the land transfer process will be guided by the Solicitor General and thereafter, MMU will be granted the opportunity to proceed.
