Deans and HODs tipped on Academic Leadership

On the last day for the Deans and Heads of Departments (HODs) induction, the academic leaders have been tipped on good Management Practices.

The external Facilitator Mr. Mwebesa Collins Lawrence tasked the Academic Leaders to focus on good governance strategies during their reign in a bid to provide innovative and transformative education.

 He explained that leadership is a multifaceted concept that has been defined and redefined by scholars and practitioners alike.

 He added that in the realm of academia, leaders must adeptly navigate the various styles of leadership to suit different contexts.

He cautioned them against likely challenges such as dealing with resistance, balancing financial resources and competing goals as some of the issues that they should expect but address with diligence.

The Director Planning, Investment and Development Mr. Ndoleriire William took the team through planning and budgeting. He noted that effective planning and budgeting are crucial for the success of any organization.

 Planning allows the HoDs to align departmental objectives with the organization’s strategic goals, ensuring that efforts contribute to broader success. It is also vital for prioritization since it helps identify critical activities and projects, focusing resources on areas with the highest impact,” he noted.

The Senior Human Resource Officer Mr. Patrick Busiinge explained to the team about performance appraisals and clarified why appraisals are important in effective management.

“Appraisal meetings are critical for both employees and organizations. They provide a structured opportunity for reflection, communication, and planning,” he said.

The induction for Deans and HODs was a three-Day activity that was organized by the Office of the Academic Registrar which took place at Lisieux Hotel,Bukara Fort Portal City.
