Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Rallies Students for Academic Distinction at General Assembly

With academic standards firmly in focus and institutional discipline taking center stage, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Mountains of the Moon University set a decisive tone for the semester during its Students’ General Assembly held on Friday, 27th February 2026 at Lake Saaka Campus, signaling a renewed devotion to excellence, accountability, and performance-driven learning.

The assembly unfolded as a strategic convergence of leadership and learners, designed not merely as a routine meeting, but as a clarion call to academic refinement, professional readiness, and collective responsibility.

Mugabo Christopher, Guild Representative in the Council for the Department of Social Sciences and Students’ Representative on the Faculty Board, officially welcomed students from the recess period, which had been characterized by active political engagement. He challenged particularly third-year students to recalibrate their academic ambitions and intentionally increase the number of first-class degrees within the faculty.

He further reminded faculty leadership that the Faculty students recently distinguished themselves in inter-faculty debate competitions, emerging as champions in public speaking, an accomplishment he described as a reflection of intellectual discipline and confidence nurtured within the faculty.

The Head of Department for Social Sciences, Paul Musobozi, urged students to intensify their academic engagement, noting that the semester commenced slightly later than scheduled and would require heightened focus. He called for deliberate participation in the multiple academic and co-curricular activities lined up throughout the semester.

Senior Assistant Registrar Akoraebirungi Bendicto reinforced the necessity of consistent lecture attendance in strict observance of official timetables, assuring students that lecturers remain fully available to facilitate learning. He emphasized semester-based faculty registration as mandatory and reminded students to remain attentive to central test and examination dates as outlined in the University Academic Calendar.

He also announced that applications for new admissions for the forthcoming academic year will begin in March and that the process will be conducted exclusively online.

Representing the Internship Coordinator, Twesige Emmanuel informed students that the eight-week internship programme will commence in June. He assured them that all preparatory meetings and detailed guidelines would be communicated in due course to ensure smooth coordination.

Research Coordinator, Kintu Gerald Joseph encouraged students experiencing research-related challenges to seek timely guidance from his office, pledging collaborative support with academic mentors to ensure steady and structured research progression.

In his address, the Faculty Dean placed pronounced emphasis on academic performance as the faculty’s foremost priority. He called for heightened seriousness in both teaching and learning, urging students and staff alike to embrace a culture of disciplined scholarship and measurable academic output.

He made it unequivocally clear that examination invigilation has been significantly tightened to safeguard academic integrity. Students were cautioned that no electronic gadgets or unauthorized materials will be permitted in examination rooms, reinforcing a zero-tolerance stance on malpractice.

Beyond academic compliance, the Dean encouraged students to actively participate in faculty activities and university leadership structures, noting that as scholars of Arts and Social Sciences, they are trained to understand and manage societal systems.

The assembly concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session during which students raised concerns and sought clarification on academic, administrative, and programmatic matters. Faculty management provided comprehensive responses, accentuating the faculty’s commitment to open communication and responsive governance.

As the semester gathers momentum, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has unmistakably positioned itself on a trajectory of sharpened excellence where academic rigor, leadership formation, and professional preparedness converge into a singular institutional ambition.
