FAES convenes evaluation engagement to debate on mapped practical facilities.

The Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences staff of Mountains of the Moon University have convened evaluation engagement today April,1.2026 at New Fort View Hotel in Fort-Portal Tourism City to evaluate, define, identify and model the FAES identified practical units and develop wayforward in preparation of AY 2027/2028 Competence Based Education.

The visit and evaluation meeting organized by the Office of the Faculty Dean originates from the resolution made during the Faculty board meeting held on March, 23.2026 to visit all internal and external practical units to identify their capacities, needs, standards and suggest solutions for suitable Competence Based Education.

According to the Faculty Registrar Mr. Comrade Mutebi Hakim, the engagement was also a reflection on; in which site/facility visited can enhance the practical teaching/competences associated with the course units, which site can be established and promoted for practical training in the competence based education in the area of expertise, which facility can support the developmental innovations and intellectual properties?, and how can the faculty utilize the sites in line with Competence Based Curriculum, how many students can each facility accommodate for practical training among other debated issues.

Pius Tibaingana, the Faculty Administrative Secretary noted that the evaluation meeting was following the pre-visiting exercise of mapped practical sites which begun on Monday and Tuesday this week in the faculty units, and external units from karangura and kyembogo farm in Kabarole District in order to come up with a comprehensive plan for proper utilization while enhancing teaching, research, innovation and training to students and communities for social Transformation.

Pius revealed that, several units were checked and assessed including; demonstration gardens, fish ponds, laboratories, greenhouses, poultry farms, animal farm, apiary, irrigation schemes among others.

In some lecturers’ presentations; Practical units once equipped and designed well, forms the cornerstone of scientific learning, providing students with hands-on experience that brings theoretical concepts to life.

They engage students, helping them develop important practical skills and knowledge, understand scientific investigation processes, and grasp broad scientific concepts through hands-on experiences.
