MMU empowers Academic Staff with E-Learning and E-Teaching skills

Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) has taken a significant step toward enhancing digital teaching capacity, conducting a comprehensive one-day training workshop on e-teaching and e-learning pedagogy for its academic staff.

The training, held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Block C Main Hall, brought together academic staff, Open Distance and E-Learning (ODEL) personnel, Faculty ODEL coordinators, and Quality Assurance staff for an intensive session led by renowned e-learning expert Prof. Martin Valcke from Ghent University, Belgium.

The workshop, organized by the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Academic Affairs, aimed to build capacity in using online tools and digital teaching methods to improve the quality of learning and student engagement. Participants gained practical skills in course design, content development, and online assessment using the university’s Learning Management System (LMS).

Opening the training session, Dr. Mugenyi Kintu, representing Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. John M. Kasenene, welcomed Prof. Valcke’s contribution to the university’s digital transformation journey.

“Prof. Valcke brings a wealth of experience and expertise in e-learning pedagogy and e-teaching,” Dr. Kintu noted. He urged participants to seize the opportunity to “learn, share, and reimagine the teaching experience.”

Prof. Kasenene, through his representative, emphasized the university’s commitment to modernization. “We look forward to implementing the university’s digital transformation agenda,” he stated, reaffirming MMU’s unwavering support for capacity building and innovation in teaching.

Closing the training on behalf of the Academic Registrar, Principal Assistant Academic Registrar Wilson Kwikiriza commended participants for their dedication throughout the program.

“I wish to convey my deepest appreciation to all participants for their active engagement, unwavering commitment, and remarkable enthusiasm throughout this transformative training on e-pedagogy in teaching and learning,” Kwikiriza said. “Your participation has made this program both meaningful and impactful.”

He encouraged the academic staff to apply the knowledge and skills acquired, wishing them success as they integrate digital teaching methods into their instructional practices.

The training represents a crucial component of MMU’s broader digital transformation strategy, designed to enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes in an increasingly digital educational landscape. By equipping faculty with modern e-learning tools and pedagogical approaches, the university aims to provide students with more engaging, accessible, and effective learning experiences.

The initiative also positions MMU at the forefront of digital innovation in higher education within the region, ensuring that both staff and students are well-prepared for the evolving demands of 21st-century education.
