The Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences of Mountains of the Moon University together with partners in agricultural extension from the Rwenzori region on March, 25.2026 held the Pre-Event for the forthcoming Uganda National Agricultural Extension Week.
The Uganda National Agricultural Extension Week (UGNAEW 2026) shall be conducted from April, 20th. to 24th.2026 at Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi Kampala themed at ‘‘Unlocking Uganda’s Agricultural potential:Mult-actor agricultural Extension and Advisory services for resilient, digital and Market-Oriented Agri-Food Ecosystems’ ’Proceeded by Regional Pre-workshops which started from February to March 2026
The Pre-Event was to identify and discuss key issues that affect farmers and actors in Agricultural Extension in the region highlight current capacity, gaps and needs within the AEAS System and generate recommendations for addressing the gap and to raise priority AEAS policy and practice recommendations for building actors’ resilience and competitiveness along the selected sub-themes.
The workshop organized under the lead of Dr.Agole David and Mr. George Jjagwe (Lectures-FAES) was sub themed at scalable and market-driven AES delivery and business, Extension for sustainable Value Chains(Coffee,Cocoa,Livestock,Aquaculture,Entomoculture),resilient and climate smart agricultural systems and practices and professionalization of the agricultural workforce.
Vice Chancellor Mountains of the Moon University Professor Pius Cox well Achanga while opening the workshop conducted at Saaka main campus commended partners and the Faculty of Agriculture for, solidarity, collaborative efforts towards transforming communities in the agricultural and Environment sectors while skilling students and local farmers in agro ecological Principles.
Professor Achanga asked stakeholders to keep engaging the community through comprehensive agriculture and environmental training, Teaching, research and innovation for a positive impact.
Achanga further appealed to agricultural experts to empower and allow Community involvement in solving agricultural problems, to emphasize on back to farmer initiatives intended to equip them with skills and knowledge to provide solutions to compressing challenges faced in productivity and Conservation.
‘‘Collaborative engagement should be helpful in providing solutions to agricultural challenges’’, Professor Achanga said.
Achanga reaffirmed the University’s commitment in providing necessary support to the national event and appreciated the organizers for involving students.
He challenged UFAAS board to think of awarding the exhibitors at the event to improve quality.
Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services-UFAAS Madam Beatrice Luzobe reaffirmed continued collaboration with Mountains of the Moon University towards agricultural development in Uganda. She tasked other organizations to work together to tackle critical issues in agriculture and environment.
Beatrice told the workshop that the Regional event is expected to facilitate regional mobilization, networking and knowledge sharing in agricultural fields, enhance policy influence and build local capacity and leadership for UFAAS.
Partners included KRC, UFAAS, ORGANIC FFLG CENTER, SNV AND AGRI TERRA who sent experts in agriculture, environment, Food and Nutrition, Gender and Social Justice, Tourism and Hospitality Management with a focus to plan for the Extension week at Regional level and furthering partnerships for social Transformation.
