In a vibrant display of athletic prowess, Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) hosted its annual inter-faculty games from November 6th to 8th, 2024. The three-day event saw the University’s six faculties go head-to-head in a variety of sports, providing a platform to identify promising student-athletes ahead of the upcoming East African Games.
The games were officially flagged off by the University Bursar, Ronald Mutego, representing the University’s Top Management. In his address, Mutego encouraged the participants and assured them of the university’s full support.
“These inter-faculty games are not just about friendly competition,” stated Mutego. “They play a crucial role in nurturing the talent and camaraderie that will carry the MMU banner at the regional level. The University is committed to providing our students with the resources and platform to excel.”
The event featured student-athletes from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Innovation. The sports contested included track and field, soccer, basketball, and volleyball.
Senior Sports Officer, Mr. Mustafa Nsubuga, emphasized the significance of the inter-faculty games in MMU’s preparations for the East African Games. “This event allows us to scout for new talent that can be incorporated into our university team. We are particularly excited about a promising young athlete, Natasha, who has caught our eye with her outstanding performances.”
The inter-faculty games come just a few weeks before the 2024 East African Games, scheduled to take place from November 15-21 at Maseno University in Kisumu, Kenya. MMU’s strong showing at the internal competition has bolstered the university’s confidence in its ability to make a mark on the regional stage.
“Our students have demonstrated tremendous skill and spirit during these inter-faculty games,” said University Bursar, Ronald Mutego “We are eager to see them represent MMU with distinction at the upcoming East African Games and bring back the honors that our institution deserves.”
