On Friday 22nd August 2025, Mountains of the Moon University hosted a Team from UGENT Association, Belgium, with members from Ghent University, Hogent University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and Howest University of Applied Sciences at the University’s Main campus in Lake Saaka.
The Team comprised of some of the partner institutions of Mountains of the Moon University, which fund some projects and foster academic collaborations among others.
The Vice Chancellor, Mountains of the Moon University, Professor Pius Coxwell Achanga, appreciated the Team for its continued support towards Mountains of the Moon University, which has seen the institution growing steadily over a short period of time.
“We are grateful for your continued collaboration with our University, and I can affirm that these collaborations have contributed greatly to our University’s growth,” he said.
The Vice Rector GHENT University, Professor Mieke Van Herreweghe, pledged to continue collaborating with MMU in order to foster academic excellence.
“We are happy to note that MMU is growing at a first rate and we are optimistic that in a few years to come, MMU will be among the best Universities in Uganda and Africa at large. As UGENT University, we shall continue collaborating with this institution, whether we have ongoing projects or not,” she avowed.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs and Outreach (DVC AA), Professor John. M. Kasenene made a presentation to the Team on how MMU was operating during inception and gave a reflection of where the Institution is currently.
He highlighted the great achievements overtime and affirmed that this is courtesy of great collaborations mostly from the 12-Year VLIRUOS Project that was sponsored by the University of Ghent.
“We are grateful to the Partners that believed in us and supported us to where we are now,” he noted.
Professor Joshua Wesana, the Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, gave a brief of some of the ongoing projects including PLEDGE (Proliferation of Local Expertise in Development of Green Growth Economy), the G-STIC Project, the BIO-Technology Lab among others.
For all the Projects, he explained the specific objectives and highlighted on the methodology being used to achieve the targeted objectives.
The Team appreciated the expertise being exhibited by the staff of MMU and urged them to keep up the great pace of soaring high in academic excellence.
