Mountains of the Moon University on Friday 22nd August 2025 opened a state-of-the-Art Bio- Technology Laboratory in the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental sciences.
The Laboratory is a tissue-culture lab where cells will be grown outside their natural environment in a typically controlled environment which will allow researchers to study the cells in detail, explore cellular behavior and conduct experiments.
The Bio- Tech Laboratory which was constructed by National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) and funded by derooze Plants in Belgium was on Friday officially handed over to the Leadership of Mountains of the Moon University for use.
The Manager derooze Plants Dr. Lucas Vanhaelewyn who played a key role in overseeing the setting up of the Laboratory assured MMU Leadership that equipment worth one Billion Shillings had already been procured and was in transit to MMU at time of the Official hand-over of the Laboratory.
He noted that the Laboratory had been built with so much diligence and will require highly qualified staff especially the Lab operators to ensure the effective use of the specialized equipment that will be in the facility.
The Dean of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Professor Joshua Wesana explained about the functionality of the Lab saying that it is going to be a plant -tissue culture that will be used for plant propagation, genetic Engineering and studying plant development.
He affirmed that MMU has competent Staff that are able to put the bio-tech Laboratory to effective use.
“Our Staff are competent and they have been trained on how to use this hi-tech equipment,” he said.
The Deputy Vice chancellor in Charge Finance and Administration (DVC FA) Professor Edmond Kagambe thanked derooze Plants and other partners that have contributed greatly towards the Development of MMU.
“MMU is growing and moving fast because of the collaborations we have with different institutions. Our students now have a state-of-the-art Laboratory with controlled environments which allows for precise control over experimental conditions, Reproducibility that will enable consistent results and replication of experiments,” he said.

PhD researcher here. Thanks Moon University, for bringing these research facilities closer to home. That said.. I invite both experts and students to come checkout the fundamental mathematics concerning GENETICS and Genetic Engineering that I’m working on and which shall definitely have some relevance in domain such as what’s being talked about here. Thanks, go checkout the book (currently in draft form, 178 pages Monograph, final version to come anytime before end of September):
