New Leadership for MMU: Three Heads of Department Sworn In

In a solemn ceremony held today at the Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom, Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) welcomed its newly appointed Heads of Departments with an official swearing-in event. The ceremony was presided over by His Worship Moses Mushiime, in the presence of the University’s Senior Legal Officer, Mr. Dixon Byaruhanga.

The new department heads took their oaths, pledging to uphold the institution’s values and lead their respective academic units with distinction. The event was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Pius Coxwell Achanga and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs Prof. John M. Kasenene.

“Today’s swearing-in ceremony marks a significant milestone for our University as we welcome a new generation of academic leaders,” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Achanga. “I am confident that these department heads will play a vital role in shaping the future of higher education at MMU.”

The newly sworn-in department heads include:

  • Dr. Sekajugo John, Head of Environment, Natural Resources and Tourism (Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Sciences).
  • Musobozi Paul, Head of Social Sciences (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences).
  • Pardon Akugizibwe, Head of Public Health (Faculty of Health Sciences).

In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Achanga emphasized the University’s commitment to setting up systems that support University’s functionality and providing unwavering support to the new department heads. “We are fully behind you in your roles, and I personally look forward to visiting your faculties and engaging with you.”

The Vice Chancellor also announced that he will be leading an official visit to Germany in January 2025, accompanied by at least one Dean and three Heads of Departments, further solidifying MMU’s global partnerships.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kasenene echoed the sentiments of support, highlighting the critical role that department-level leadership plays in the foundation of higher education. “We are grateful for your willingness to take on these responsibilities, and we trust that you will continue to uphold the respect and dignity of our students.”

His Worship Moses Mushiime, who presided over the swearing-in ceremony, underscored the importance of such formal events in reinforcing the commitment and accountability of academic leaders.

“The act of taking an oath serves as a solemn promise to the university and the community you serve,” stated His Worship Mushiime. “I am confident that these department heads will fulfill their duties with integrity and lead their teams to new heights of excellence.”

The Senior Legal Officer, Mr. Dixon Byaruhanga, coordinated the event, ensuring that the proceedings adhered to the University’s legal protocols and best practices.

Today’s swearing-in ceremony marks a new chapter for Mountains of the Moon University, as it continues to strengthen its leadership and position itself as a premier institution of higher learning in the region.
