On Tuesday 4th November 2025, MMU hosted Prof.Geart Haesert a Lecturer in the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering in the University of Ghent who held a Public Lecture on Genetic Diversity for more climate resilience in our cropping systems.
He explained why we need genetic diversity and how to create genetic diversity in our cropping systems among others.
Prof. Geart clarified that it is eminent to find ways of practicing Agriculture while being mindful of climate change.
The Vice Chancellor Mountains of the Moon University Prof.Pius Coxwell Achanga noted that the public Lecture was handy and he applauded Prof.Gaert.
“We are honoured as MMU community to have such an insightful Lecture and we hope that this will transfer into viable projects and Internship opportunities for our students,” he said.
Dr. Jacob Kaingo a Lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences noted that the Lecture was timely for a section of Agriculture students that are currently learning on crop genetics.
