Our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pius Coxwell Achanga, attended the inauguration of the IUCEA Phase II Headquarters Building in Kyambogo, Kampala, officiated by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. The ceremony marked a significant occasion for the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), bringing together distinguished leaders from across the region to celebrate the completion of a facility designed to serve as a hub for academic cooperation and institutional development.

As the representative of Uganda’s public universities on the IUCEA Executive Committee, Prof. Achanga recognises this milestone as an important step towards strengthening regional collaboration, research, innovation and higher education. The new headquarters is expected to enhance IUCEA’s capacity to coordinate joint academic programmes, facilitate staff and student exchanges, and promote shared research agendas among member universities.

This development creates greater opportunities for MMU and other universities across East Africa, opening doors for deeper partnerships, increased access to regional funding initiatives, and stronger alignment of academic standards. The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed MMU’s commitment to working closely with IUCEA and peer institutions to advance the collective goal of a vibrant, integrated higher education sector in East Africa.
