The Office of the Academic Registrar at Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) has invited alumni and staff to submit nominations for six vacant positions on the Electoral Commission of the University’s Convocation, with the exercise set to run from Monday, August 24th to Friday, September 4th, 2026.
In a notice dated August 19th and signed by the Academic Registrar, Mrs. Grace K. Nyakahuma, the University announced that nominations are being sought for the offices of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, two Commissioners from among undergraduate alumni, and one Commissioner from among postgraduate alumni.
The positions are established under Article 19 of the Constitution of the Convocation of MMU. Once constituted, the six-member Commission will serve a four-year term running from 2026 to 2030, during which it will be responsible for organizing elections to the Convocation Executive, the Representative to the University Council, and other Convocation offices.
According to the notice, the Commission’s mandate will include preparing electoral materials ahead of any election, managing and overseeing the entire electoral process, issuing guidelines before elections take place, handling complaints and disputes that arise, and ensuring that elections are conducted freely, fairly and transparently.
The call follows resolutions passed at the MMU Alumni General Meeting held on May 16th, 2026, and is anchored in Articles 19(e) and (f), 4(a), and 5(a-c) of the Convocation Constitution.
To qualify for nomination, an individual must be an alumnus or member of staff of MMU and must have paid a subscription fee of UGX 20,000 to the MMU Imprest account (Account Number 1130000006647) at Housing Finance Bank, Fort Portal Branch. Prospective nominees are required to download nomination forms from www.mmu.ac.ug, fill them out, and submit them alongside a written letter expressing interest to the Academic Registrar. Each nominee will need at least two nominators who are themselves subscribed members of the Convocation, although submission of nominations itself is free of charge.
The University has outlined a four-step procedure: presenting proof of payment at the bank, obtaining nomination forms from the Office of the Academic Registrar, completing the forms, and submitting them within the nomination window.
Members of the University community seeking further information have been advised to contact the Office of the Academic Registrar via email at registrar@mmu.ac.ug or by telephone.
