Mr. Kirungi Hashim, an official from Bank of Uganda (B.O.U) in the National Payments’ Department has called upon MMU Students to turn what they learn from their courses more practical and apply it to change the societies they live in. He said “ the communities out there look at you as agents of change.” He urged them to be more practical in thinking; open bank accounts; and venture into beneficial activities than give attention to social media.
This was disclosed during the research workshop organized by the MMU department of Banking and Finance on 09th.03.2023 at the University Main Hall, Lake Saaka Campus. The workshop was intended to discuss the role and mandate of the Central Bank.
The workshop, exposed students to opportunities available at B.O.U as student Internships and job opportunities. Hashim explained that all field as education, catering, Law, accounting are all tenable at the Bank. He noted that B.O.U student internship placements are always open for application in the months of May and June of every year.
Mr. Suleiman Nyanzi , the Assistant Director in the department of Economic Research, B.O.U Kampala, advised students to work hard to be able to work at the bank since only those with 2nd upper class and First class degrees are employable at B.O.U.
Kiibira Derrick, a third year student pursuing Bachelor of Arts in Economics, a participant in the workshop said he has been challenged to scale up his reading and research efforts given that most information on the performance of the economy can be got outside the lecture room.
Dr. Prisca Kyalisiima, the Head of Department Banking and Finance thanked the B.O.U officials for honoring the MMU invitation and called upon students to always use such chances to link up with such guest speakers who might become a blessing to their lives.
