The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS(ASCPi)CM) certification is an internationally recognized credential awarded by the American Society for Clinical Pathology International (ASCPi). This certification is designed for medical laboratory professionals outside the United States who meet the educational and professional experience requirements. To qualify, candidates must typically hold a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science (or a related field) from an accredited institution and have completed a structured clinical training program or possess relevant work experience in laboratory settings. The certification exam assesses knowledge in key areas such as hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, immunohematology (blood banking), and immunology. Upon passing the exam, professionals earn the MLS(ASCPi)CM credential, which signifies competency in laboratory practices and adherence to global standards. The “CM” (Credential Maintenance) designation indicates the requirement for periodic renewal through continuing education to ensure professionals stay updated with advancements in laboratory medicine. The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Laboratory Technology (BSc. BBLT) at Makerere University is a comprehensive undergraduate program designed to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in laboratory sciences, diagnostics, and biomedical research. The program covers key areas such as microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, molecular biology, and immunology, preparing graduates to work in medical laboratories, research institutions, and public health sectors. The curriculum integrates laboratory management, quality control, and emerging technologies in biomedical diagnostics, ensuring students are well-prepared for careers in healthcare and scientific research. Students gain hands-on experience through laboratory training, internships in hospitals and research institutions, and fieldwork. Graduates of this program can pursue further specialization in medical laboratory sciences, biotechnology, or related biomedical fields. The Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education at Makerere University is a specialized program designed to equip healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge and skills in teaching, curriculum development, assessment, and educational leadership within medical and health sciences education.
