Just a week after holding the Beauty Pageant 2023 to select Miss and Mister MMU, the Student Affairs Department of MMMU has successfully held a Freshers’ Bash 2023. This is an annual event that welcomes first year students to campus and is intended to run freshers’ through a number of things concerning how a student life should be while at campus. This ranges from academics through to health and the general wellbeing while at University.
The Vice-Chancellor Pius Coxwell Achanga who was represented at the function by the Deputy Director Human Resources Mr. Joseph Byaruhanga implored students to remain focused on attaining good grades as a means of having a bright future because employers are on the lookout for good grades and ethical employees.
Mr. Katende David, who represented the Dean of Students at the function due to other commitments, shared his experience a student and urged freshers’ to act as role models by attaining good grades and remaining future focused.
Both the University Counsellor Ms. Kugoza Gorret and the University Assistant Nursing Officer Ms. Arinaitwe Prossy encouraged students to live a healthy life, feed well on a balanced diet and avoid behaviour that would lead freshers’ to acquiring HIV/AIDS. They gave an incident where 100 first years had been impregnated by third years in a particular past year.
The event climaxed with a dance party at Africana discotheque and hangout at Fort Portal City.
