Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) female Netball team has qualified for the quarterfinals in the East African University games that are currently taking place at Ndejje University in Luwero district, Uganda.
The MMU Netball team was placed under group A with teams such as Gulu University (Uganda), Ardhi University (Tanzania) and Kampala University (Uganda) had two wins over Gulu University and Ardhi University with one loss to Kampala University who are also the 2017 Netball East African University champions.
According to the program arrangement, the MMU netball team is drawn against Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the quarterfinals who are the reigning champions in the East African University games in Netball.
The MMU Netball team Coach Mr. Robert Kitakakire explains that despite the short time that the team had to prepare for the games, they have been able to put up a spirited fight to reach the quarterfinals and was hopeful that the team will reach the semifinals and finals. “ We have not had any major disturbances like sickness in our team as this has helped us stay safe to continue playing” Mr. Robert Kitakakire noted.
He indicated that there is more work to do in the future like having adequate time to prepare for the games and scouting for good players from the neighboring secondary schools by offering them scholarships so that they can add strength to our teams.
The MMU Dean of Students Mr. David Katende who is leading all the MMU teams to the East African games says many of his netball team girls are being scouted by big clubs in the country and are being promised offers to join those clubs.
In other games, the MMU male football team managed one win (2:1) against Kanya Methodist University which was not enough to take them to the quarterfinals as they lost two games against Ndejje University and Muni University.
We are yet to witness athletics activity today 20th December 2022 due to the bad weather that waterlogged the athletics field as a result of the morning downpour yesterday that made this activity postponed.
The East African University games have attracted over 40 universities from all over the East African Region and have been running since 16th December 2022 and are meant to climax on the 21st of December 2022. The chief guest that officially opened the games on the 15th of December 2022 was the Uganda Minister for East African Affairs, Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga who is also a woman Member of Parliament representing Kamuli District.
