NSSF Engages MMU Staff on Social Security Benefits

On Monday, December 2, 2024, a delegation from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), led by Deputy Managing Director Mr. Gerald Paul Kasato, held a meeting with administrative and support staff of Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) at the Lake Saaka campus in Fort Portal. The session aimed to sensitize university staff about the fund’s offerings and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration to improve social security for employees.

During the meeting, Mr. Kasato emphasized the importance of monitoring savings and encouraged attendees to utilize the NSSF Go App for convenient access to their accounts. He outlined the Fund’s primary services, including managing mandatory employer and employee contributions to provide Age Benefits for retirees, Invalidity Benefits for members incapacitated by illness or disability, Survivors Benefits for next of kin in the event of a member’s death, and Withdrawal Benefits for unemployed members. He also highlighted the flexibility and competitive interest rates of voluntary savings, which allow members to withdraw funds as needed.

Welcoming the delegation, MMU’s University Secretary, Dr. Gregory Tweheyo, called for closer collaboration between the two institutions to enhance the social security welfare of university staff. Discussions focused on strengthening existing engagements and exploring innovative ways to safeguard employees’ financial security and well-being.

Both institutions expressed optimism that this partnership will yield long-term benefits, reinforcing social protection for MMU staff while contributing to the broader economic stability of the country.
