Mountains of the Moon University has today the 12th December 2024 flagged off the Students’ Sports team for the 13th East Africa University Games.
The MMU Students’ sports team is a diverse and talented group of 35 players who were carefully selected to represent the University in the disciplines of Football, Darts, Chess, Scrabble and Athletics.
During the flag off ceremony that was conducted in the university Main hall, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics (DVCAA) Professor. John. M. Kasenene who also represented the Vice Chancellor at the occasion, urged players to develop a winning strategy that will enable them to outpace their competitors and emerge victorious. He also asked them to prioritize the reputation of the University.
“As you go for these competitions, carry with you the love and winning spirit of Mountains of the Moon University”, the Deputy Vice Chancellor emphasised.
The Dean of Students Ms. Roselyn Ssali, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the University for its generous support to the sports team. She acknowledged the University for its significant impact towards the team’s performance. She also advised the team to foster unity and be mindful of their behaviour as ambassadors of the institution.
The MMU Senior Sports Officer Mr. Mustafa Nsubuga, stressed the importance of discipline and respect within the team, advising players to adhere to the highest standards of discipline.
“Your behaviour on and off the field reflects not just on yourself, but on your teammates, your institution, and your country, let us strive to make ourselves and our team proud”, Mustafa cautioned the players.
The East Africa University Games will take place from December 16th to 21st, 2024, at Maseno University in Kisumu, Kenya. This event will bring together over 30 universities from East African countries, featuring a diverse range of sports such as Darts, Football, Chess, Scrabble and many others.
