United Bank for Africa (UBA) has today Thursday, 22nd.05.2025  joined Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) in a tree planting initiative aimed at promoting environmental conservation and supporting afforestation efforts in the region. The activity took place at MMU’s Lake Saaka Campus in Fort Portal and was attended by a section of university and UBA staff.

Speaking during the launch of the exercise, Baguma Joshua, Relationship Manager at UBA, emphasized the bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability. “We have come up with this tree planting activity at Mountains of the Moon University because, as a bank, we believe in supporting environmental protection. One of the key ways to achieve this is through promoting afforestation,” he said.

Baguma also highlighted the mutual benefits of the ongoing partnership between UBA and MMU. “Most of our customers come from the university community. They support the bank through account opening, and in turn, we support them financially in their personal development,” he added.

Engineer Andrew Mason, Deputy Chief Estates Officer at MMU, expressed gratitude for the donation of tree seedlings and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to environmental stewardship.

“On behalf of the university management, I would like to appreciate UBA for this positive gesture. The trees provided will go a long way in improving our environment. As an agriculture-based institution, greening the university is a key priority, and this initiative supports that vision,” he said.

Mason also expressed optimism about the future of the partnership, noting that the university hopes to see the relationship with UBA grow even stronger.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by MMU to engage with communities through sustainable and impactful corporate social responsibility programs, while it continues to enhance its commitment to creating a green and eco-friendly campus.
