3rd MMU Annual Research Dissemination Conference | Day One Highlights

The 3rd Annual Research Dissemination Conference at Mountain of the Moon University continued with powerful discussions centered on research, innovation, partnerships, and sustainable development.

A key message throughout the conference was that research should not remain confined to lecture rooms and publications it must generate practical solutions to the challenges facing communities. Speakers challenged researchers to develop innovations that address food security, climate change, unemployment, value addition, and economic transformation.

The conference also emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between universities, research institutions, industry, government, and development partners. Through joint research, postgraduate training, technology incubation, student internships, innovation hubs, and commercialization of research, institutions can create lasting impact across Uganda and the region.

A compelling vision was presented for the Rwenzori Region: transforming Fort Portal City into East Africa’s leading knowledge and innovation city, positioning the region as a hub for agricultural research, digital innovation, climate-smart agriculture, and entrepreneurship. The vision includes strengthening tea, coffee, cocoa, and livestock value chains while empowering young innovators to become creators of opportunities rather than job seekers.

The discussions also acknowledged the realities facing communities today, including prolonged dry spells, food insecurity, malnutrition, and the growing effects of climate change. Participants were reminded that these challenges require evidence-based research, innovation, and collective action if sustainable solutions are to be achieved.

As the conference continues, Mountain of the Moon University remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing research excellence, nurturing innovation, building strategic partnerships, and translating knowledge into meaningful impact for communities, Uganda, and the wider world.

“Let us transform research into innovation, innovation into enterprises, and enterprises into prosperity.”
