Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research (DPGSR)

The Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research (DPGSR) was established in 2011 with a vision of creating and supporting graduate studies and research that would maximize a student’s ability to achieve success. Our role is to foster excellence in graduate research and innovation by providing leadership and administrative support underpinned by the principles of quality, diversity and integrity. 

The role of the Directorate of Graduate Research (DGR) is to foster excellence in graduate research and innovation by providing leadership and administrative support underpinned by the principles of quality, diversity and integrity. The Directorate works directly with academic units where the research is being undertaken.

The DGR is mandated to:

  • Vet and make recommendations to the CGSR on admissions of graduate students in all MMU Schools/Faculties/Colleges.
  • Monitor the academic progress of graduate students in different faculties within the University.
  • Coordinate graduate research and innovations in the University, e.g. through organising or hosting courses and seminars on research.
  • Provide orientation and mentorship of graduate students.
  • Coordinate graduate student and staff research projects and publications in the university. This shall include approval of student research proposals, internal and external examination of dissertations and defence of the same.
  • Manage and update data on publications and intellectual property rights.
  • Produce an annual update of ongoing research and publications in the university.
  • Together with other university departments, promote graduate studies, research and innovations
  • Be a home for graduate students, managing assigned graduate facilities like the Resource Room, book banks, computer lab(s) etc.
  • Act as the Secretariat to the CGSR.
