User Services

Technical Services Section

The Technical Services Section in the library manages cataloging, acquisitions, and processing of materials, ensuring efficient organisation and accessibility for library users.

This segment of the library is exclusively reserved for library staff and is responsible for various tasks, including the acquisition of library materials through purchases, donations, and gifts. Additionally, it oversees the processing of library materials through stamping, accessioning, cataloging, and classification. The section plays a crucial role in maintaining the library system and establishing access points for materials, such as the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).

Furthermore, it strategizes and develops plans to acquire a well-rounded collection of library materials, encompassing print books, periodicals, online resources, and other media. While encouraging faculties, departments, and units to contribute to the library collection, the ultimate authority for selection lies with the University librarian who doubles as the head of department. All specified books intended for offices, faculties, departments, and units need to go through the library for acquisition, cataloging, recording, and transfer, with the option to retain copies in the library.

The section also focuses on developing a database and record of print information resources, organizing archival documents, internal filing, shelving, examining records, and creating guidelines for archives. It actively maintains an online catalogue for archives and provides assistance to both internal and external researchers, among other responsibilities.
