Mountains of the Moon University on 27th June 2025 held its 17th Graduation Ceremony at the Main campus in Lake Saaka, Fort portal City amidst pomp and glamour.
The Chancellor Professor Edward B. Rugumayo applauded the University upon holding the University’s fourth series of Graduation for the institution as a public entity while propelling academic excellence in the Rwenzori Region and beyond.
He thanked the Government of Uganda for the enormous support towards the institution that is changing the lives of a majority of people in the Rwenzori region and beyond.
He appealed to Government to offer more support especially for infrastructural development so as to help the institution achieve its’ dream of propelling quality and relevant education for improved social and economic development.
The Chief Guest Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, the Minister of State for Higher Education who represented the First Lady and Minister of Education Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, thanked the leadership of Mountains of the Moon University for its unwavering commitment towards academic excellence.
“I need to congratulate Mountains of the Moon University for the great milestone achieved within a short period, more especially today that we are holding the 17th Graduation Ceremony along with unveiling the First Joint PhD programme in Agroecological sciences, this is undoubtedly a sign of commitment towards Academic excellence,” he said.
He appealed to the Grandaunts to desist from leaving poisonous lifestyles like taking drugs and sexual promiscuity, which is becoming a big challenge to several youth.
Hon. Muyingo affirmed that the Government is ready to support the institution in infrastructural development to ensure that this excellence is sustained.
The Vice Chancellor Professor Pius Coxwell Achanga thanked the Management of the University and that of the Guild for ensuring orderliness and sanity around the institution which has enabled a good learning environment.
“Our University is peaceful with no strikes and unnecessary chaos that would have disrupted the learning environment and we owe this to good governance,” he said.
He confirmed to the audience that Mountains of the Moon University is ready to promote competence-based learning through incorporating theory with practice, specifically in Agriculture, Tourism, and Environment which is the University’s niche.
“MMU is determined to produce graduates who are practical, in a way that they will be able to provide solutions that will lead to social-economic transformation in their communities,” he said.
Professor Achanga also thanked international partners who have helped and are still helping the institution to develop and provide quality and innovative learning to the students.
It should be noted that the 17th Graduation was specifically organized for the Students who enrolled during the COVID 19 Pandemic outbreak.
A total of 231 students graduated in various disciplines with certificates, Diplomas, Degrees and Master’s degrees.
Ms. Kasembo Velma from the Bachelor of Human Resource Management graduated as the best student with a CGPA of 4.67.
