MMU to Lead the Revitalization of Rwenzori Regional Development Framework

Mountains of the Moon University on 2nd July 2025 held a meeting with different stakeholders in the Rwenzori Region in a bid to lay strategies to revitalize the Rwenzori Regional Development Framework (RRDF) an association that had been formed to promote social, economic and infrastructure development in the Region.

Mr. Clovis Kabaseke, a Lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at Mountains of the Moon University, chaired the meeting and highlighted some of the objectives of RRDF, among which included regional development, community engagement, and socio-economic sustainability, noting that this forum was crucial to the growth of the Rwenzori Region.

“It should be noted that this forum was hinging on important issues in the Region like Food security, Environmental protection and promotion of Tourism, which is in line with MMU’s niche,” he noted, stressing that there is a need to revive this forum for the betterment of the region.

The Executive Director of Kabarole Research and Resource Center (KRC), Mr. Sharif Muhamed, also explained that the major aim of RRDF was to provide solutions in the Education Sector, enhance community engagement, and provide strategies for increased food production in the Rwenzori Region, which issues still stand. He implored stakeholders to propel the idea of rejuvenating this important forum for the development of the region.

The Vice Chancellor of Mountains of the Moon University, Professor Pius Coxwell Achanga, appreciated the idea of revitalizing the Rwenzori Region Development Framework and pledged his commitment as the head of the University.

“The Rwenzori Regional Development Framework aligns with the vision and mission of MMU of providing innovative and transformative Education through research and community engagement for social and economic transformation. As MMU, we are committed to fostering ideas that are aimed at propelling social-economic transformation in the Rwenzori Region,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor also appreciated the various stakeholders for selecting Mountains of the Moon University to chair the good cause of revitalizing RRDF, noting that the institution is committed to leading this forum for greater heights.
