MMU to partner with Laikipia University, Kenya

In an effort to boost standards of learning among students and staff exchange and realization of the long a waited benefit of East African Community Integration, Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) recently accepted the request to collaborate with Laikipia University from Kenya.

On a one-day visit to MMU from Laikipia University, Nyahururu town, Laikipia County about 200 Kilometers from Nairobi next to Thompson Falls and Aberdare Mountains, led by Dean Faculty of Humanities and Development Studies, Dr. Sheila Wandera Simwa, who represented Laikipia University Vice Chancellor had a discussion with the MMU Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. John M. Kasenene on a range of various collaborating areas.

The aim for their request was to have strong ties in four (4) faculties as: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Development Studies, Faculty of Business and Economics and Faculty of Science and Applied Technology.

Dr. Sheila Wandera who doubles as a senior lecturer of Kiswahili and Communication said they want to link up in areas of research, writing proposals for funding, exchange of senior lecturers in post graduate studies, external examination, curriculum development and reviews.

The University also offers TVET (Technical and Vocational Training) courses at diploma level, undergraduate programmes and postgraduate studies attracting International students from all over Africa.

The MMU Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. John M. Kasenene explained that the University has over 60 programs with its niche as Agriculture, Tourism and Environmental Sciences.

He added that this partnership has been long overdue, that when the University started in 2005 it began with partners from Europe, it would have begun within Africa because they share a lot in common culturally and understand each other very well.

Prof. Kasenene revealed that such collaborations help universities to grow academically, “It is time academicians from Africa start waking up from slumber as it through such cooperation that solve problems which affect the communities.” He disclosed.

MMU Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Ngabirano Everit hailed the team from Kenya for being interested in partnering with MMU.
