The annual six-week (short) course in Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Qualitative Research (EBQ) conducted by the Faculty of Health Sciences of Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) that targets practicing health and health-trained professionals aimed at equipping health professionals with knowledge of epidemiological research, statistical methods and qualitative research has entered the second week.
The course has attracted 45 participants as compared to 19 of last year and course modules include Quantitative Epidemiology Study Designs; Methods of data analysis in epidemiology/biostatistics; Quantitative data analysis using statistical software package R and R studio; Qualitative study designs; and Qualitative data analysis using statistical software package (Nvivo).
The facilitators of the course include both external and Internal. Internal facilitators include Assoc. Prof. Joshua Wesana, Assoc. Prof. John Rubaihayo, Dr. Edwin Akuguzibwe, Dr. Emmanuel Kimera, Ms. Andinda Maureen and Mr. Ikiriza Anthony. External facilitators include: Prof. Nazarius M Tumwesigye of Makerere University, Prof. Pascal Coorevits (University of Gent, Belgium), Dr. Edson Mwebesa, and Dr. Joseph Rujumba.
The course started on Monday 5th August with 1st week being a face to face at Kalya Courts and the rest of the 5 weeks being online, September 13th will be the final day where certificate will be awarded for successful candidates.
One participant who spoke on behalf of other participants thanked the organizers of the opportunity of training at a very low cost since the market cost of the training is way too high.
During the official opening of the training, Prof. John M. Kasenene, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs thanked the organizers and the participants for taking keen interest in the Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Qualitative research course, which is very marketable and provides practical solutions.
