Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) last week witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of its new Faculty Deans, who will serve for the next four years. The ceremony at the University’s Main Campus marked the beginning of new academic leadership across the institution’s faculties.
The new faculty deans included: Dr. Paul Muleke, Faculty of Education; Dr. Fredrick Mutabaruka, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. John Rwakihembo, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences; Dr. Emmanuel Kimera, Faculty of Health Sciences; Dr. Edwin Akugizibwe, Faculty of Science, Technology and Innovations; and Assoc. Prof. Joshua Wesana, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Sciences.
The installation ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Prof. John M. Kasenene, Deputy Vice Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Edmond Kagambe, who was joined by the Deputy Academic Registrar Veronica Kabasomi and the Senior Legal Officer Dixon Byaruhanga coordinated the administering the oath of office to the incoming deans which was done by His Worship Moses Mushiime.
In his remarks during the ceremony, Prof. Kasenene emphasized the critical role of faculty deans in advancing the university’s academic excellence and institutional development. “The position of Dean comes with significant responsibilities in steering our faculties toward achieving our strategic objectives in teaching, research, and community engagement,” he said.
Assoc. Prof. Edmond Kagambe, the Vice-Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, underscored the importance of prudent resource management in academic leadership. “As you assume these crucial positions, remember that effective leadership in academia goes hand in hand with responsible financial stewardship. My office is committed to supporting your initiatives while ensuring while ensuring compliance with our financial regulations and optimization of available resources,” he stated.
Veronica Kabasomi, the Deputy Academic Registrar highlighted the importance of adherence to university policies and regulations, urging the new deans to maintain high standards of academic integrity and professional conduct throughout their tenure.
His Worship Moses Mushiime administered the oath of office, where the deans pledged to faithfully execute their duties and responsibilities in accordance with the university’s statutes and regulations.
The newly installed deans outlined their visions for their respective faculties, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing academic quality, promoting research, and fostering innovation in their areas of jurisdiction.
The four-year appointment comes as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its academic leadership and institutional governance structures.
