Counselling Unit

The counselling office at MMU helps to offer guidance and counselling to students, and staff. We address personal, emotional and psychological challenges that may affect our students and staff while studying or staff working at Mountains of the Moon University.

The Office of the Counsellor addresses psychological issues that affect students and staff that may affect them in living worthy and productive lives.

The office works closely with other Faculties\Schools to offer psychosocial support to the students to realize their full potential. This is done through seminars, workshops, staff meetings, among others.

The office ensures to provide counselling and guidance services to enhance academic success and further educational goals for MMU students.

AREAS OF FOCUS:

The counselling office focuses on the following areas; including but not limited to :

  • Addictions
  • Anxiety
  • Grief and loss/bereavement counselling.
  • Depression
  • Dealing with Trauma
  • Eating disorders
  • Managing stress
  • Eating disorders
  • Managing emotions; anger and suicide ideas
  • Engaging in non-damaging relationships
  • Esteem building
  • Critical thinking
  • Building virtues and life skills.

OUR STRATEGIES:

The counselling unit offers counselling and guidance through the following strategies:

  • Individual counselling
  • Career educational seminars
  • Group counselling
  • Weekly staff audios\podcasts
  • Monthly mentorship spaces for students and staff
  • Radio programs using the MMU radio
  • Self- help print materials and on line materials
  • On line special counselling talks; telephone counselling , and email help
  • Outdoor activities for mental health for students and staff; picnics, and tours.

Note:

  1. The counselling services are available for both students, staff, and their relatives for academic excellence, and work productivity at MMU.
  2. Referral services are offered; if you realize you that there is a dual relationship with the University counsellor, you can ask for a referral. There is a list of counsellors in the community willing to offer free support to our students and staff.
  3. All relationship between the counsellor and clients; students and staff and others ensures professional ethical standards of counselling.
  4. Make an appointment or just drop in for assistance
